Archiving research

What archiving requirements are there?

The archiving requirements differ depending on the type of documents and information concerned, and is regulated by the Archiving Act and the Swedish National Archives is the regulatory authority.

As a rule, research data and documentation has to be stored for at least 10 years after publication, sometimes even longer. After that archiving is done.

KI guidelines

To facilitate for researchers at KI, the KI central archive has created a guide for document management (sv. Dokumenthanteringsplan för KI). In the guide there is information on how and when research data and documentation can be discarded, as well as whether archiving should be done on paper or electronically.

It is the responsibility of the head of the department to ensure that the correct archiving routines are followed.

If you have questions, please contact the central archive.
