About me

I am a specialist in two fields; Gynaecology/Obstetrics 1984 and Gynaecological Oncology 1991. Since 1990 I have worked at the Department for Gynaecological Oncology, currently known as the Department for Breast-Gynonc-Sarcoma, at Radiumhemmet. Where, I have held the position of consultant since 2002.

I gained a PhD in 1997 at the Institute for Oncology/Pathology and became an Associate Professor in 2001. Since the 1990s I have taken a lead role in translational research in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a special interest in cervical cancer. This was done in collaboration with the research teams of Professor Gert Auer and Professor Anders Zetterberg.

Since the middle of 2000, together with Professor Sonia Andersson at Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology (supervisor) and dr. Kristina Hellman of the Unit for Gynaecological Oncology, we formed a research group specialising in cervical cancer with a focus on prognostic/predictive factors as well as improved diagnostics for these types of tumour.

I have approximately 40 publications  in international peer-reviewed journals, several posters and am co-author of textbooks "Gynekologisk Onkologi" and "Lärobok för barnmorskor. Over the years I have been in receipt of FOU/ALF grants both as supervisor and co-supervisor in several projects.

In my clinical work my main interest has been focused on cervical cancer as well as radiotherapy as a treatment model. Over the years I have been responsible for developing several projects within radiotherapy. In 2011, with the help of ALF grants I have implemented a 3D-planned brachy-therapy treatment for cervical cancer. Ever since 2005 I have strived towards acquiring an MRI scanner for the Radiumhemmet which we finally achieved in the summer of 2013. The MRI scanner is now in use and will be a great resource for future research as well as in clinic work being used for the benefit of our patients with cervical cancer who are receiving tailor-made or individualized  brachytherapy treatment.
