I was appointed professor of occupational and environmental dermatology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet in 2009. During the years 2000-2008, I was adjunct professor at the Department of Medicine Solna. Since July 2016, I am active as professor emeritus at the Institute of Environmental Medicine. I have been senior physician and head of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health and of the Unit of Occupational and Environmental Dermatology, Stockholm County Council. I have also worked at the former Swedish National Institute for Working Life.

Research description

Research, clinical work and risk assessment tasks have been my main areas. My research concerns occupational and environmental skin diseases, particularly skin allergy, hazardous skin exposure and skin exposure assessment. Clinical, experimental and epidemiological methodologies have been applied. I have had many expert assignments for the EU, OECD, Swedish Chemicals Agency and others concerning risk assessment and risk management. The research concerning skin sensitizing metals has been of vital importance in reducing the nickel allergy risk in the EU.
