'Medical scientist in the field of mesenchymal stem cells'

About me

I am a New Zealand and Swedish Citizen who completed a 1 year postgraduate Honours degree in Pharmacology from the University of Auckland. In addition, prior to my Honours degree, I also completed a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology from the University of Auckland. For nearly 3 years I worked as a Research Assistant at the Saudi Arabian National Guard in Riyadh at KAIMRC (King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre) for a mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) research laboratory. I am currently working as a junior researcher following the completion of my PhD in stem cell biology at Karolinska Institutet affiliated to the division of obstetrics and gynecology, department of CLINTEC, and based at ANA Futura at Huddinge campus. I am in Cecilia Götherström's group. I am completing my PhD work, which is exploring the role of MSC in endometriosis. Moreover, I am characterizing the biological signature of fetal MSC derived from the human liver, which are going to be investigated as a therapy in individuals suffering from osteogenesis imperfecta in the BOOSTB4 clinical trial.

Research description

I have research experience in the field of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) since 2011 in various fields including gynecology, pediatrics, cardiovascular biology, oxidative stress and diabetes. I have worked with normal and disease-affected MSC from both adult and fetal sources including bone marrow, adipose, endometrium, endometriotic ovarian cysts, liver, umbilical cord and placental tissues. In the placenta I have worked with MSC from the chorionic villi, decidua basalis and decidua parietalis.

I have at least 18 publications (original and review) in international peer-reviewed journals in the field of MSC. I have also reviewed at least 53 manuscripts (both original and review) in international peer-reviewed journals in the field of stem cell biology. In my time as a tutor I assisted up to 10 students for two hours a week. In addition, I also assisted them at other times, outside university hours, when help was needed.

I am currently looking for opportunities to teach in academia (feel free to contact me if there are opportunities).
