Research description
The goal of our clinical research is to investigate the pathogenesis of primary antibody deficiency and the immune pathways involved that may help physicians and immunologist to understand genes with currently unknown functions aiding in deciding the therapeutic approach for the patients. Molecular diagnosis will also help all family members of patient by using carrier detection, and pre-implantation testing in conjunction with in vitro fertilization. Moreover, genetic analysis is required for confirmation of diagnosis and establishment of the inheritance pattern. This information is not only a guide for a decision on abortion, but it could be used for long term planning, such as bone marrow transplantation of the infant at birth. The result of this genetic testing could include screening for newborns in selected families or ethnic groups.
