About me

Hong Qian, PhD., Associate prof., is a group leader for the research group Leukemia niche at the Center for hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) at Karolinska Institutet.

Hong Qiuan was recruited to HERM as an assistant professor in 2012. She received her Ph.D. degree in Stem Cell Biology from Lund University, Sweden (2007) and did a postdoc at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Linköping University, Sweden (2008-2011).

Research description

Our research program mainly focuses on the role of the hematopoietic niche in bone marrow in myeloid leukemia using both mouse models and patient materials. Several advanced techniques including multi-color flow cytometry, confocal imaging, RNA sequencing and experimental transplantation are required for the projects.

We are aiming to decipher in vivo activities of mesenchymal cell niche in bone marrow during normal hematopoiesis and hematological disorders including leukemia.

The potential findings from this research program may help to understand cellular mechanisms underlying the regulation of hematopoiesis and to develop better therapeutic strategies targeting the bone marrow niche for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia or acute myeloid leukemia.
