About me
Isabelle Johansson finished her medical degree at Karolinska Institutet in 2014. Shortly after, she was awarded the position of a research medical internship (Forskar-AT) at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna that she finalised in late 2016. Due to a large interest in lifestyle, welfare and its impact on public health, miss Johansson got in contact with the research group led by Professor Lars Rydén to write her masters thesis for the Medical Doctors degree on the matter of heart failure in combination with diabetes mellitus. This work subsequently led to a PhD fellowship starting in late 2012 on demographic and prognostic studies of heart failure combined with diabetes mellitus, with Assistant Professor Anna Norhammar as main supervisor. She sucessfully defended her thesis in May 2017.
Apart from medical studies, Isabelle Johansson spent one year (2006-2007) studying Political Science, Sociology and Latin at Malmö Högskola and Lund University and in 2005, six months studying French language and culture at Université Stendahl, Grenoble, France.
Research description
Isabelle Johansson’s main area of research covers heart failure in combination with diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is common in heart failure and is known to compromise prognosis in such patients. The underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Therefore, she, together with her supervisors is pursuing epidemiologic studies based on data from the nationwide Swedish Heart Failure Registry studying differences in risk factor pattern, long-term prognosis, treatment and mechanisms of heart faulre in patients with and without diabetes. The studied patient group has advanced disease and a deepened knowledge about the underlying mechanisms of these conditions can bring us further in the search of enhanced quality of life and hopefully improved survival for these patients.
