About me
John Maret-Ouda recieved his medical degree at Karolinska Institutet in June 2014. He was registered as a KID-financed PhD student in Jesper Lagergren's group Upper GI Surgery during the spring of 2014. In April 2018 John defended his thesis Clinical and oncopreventive outcomes of antireflux surgery. Since his dissertation, John is working as a physician at the Karolinska University Hospital, but will continue to conduct research as an affiliated researcher in the research group.
The research focuses on surgical treatment of heartburn and acidic regurgitation, both regarding effectiveness and surgical risks. His research also concerns prevention of esophageal cancer (of the type adenocarcinoma), since heartburn is one of the main risk factors for this type of cancer.
