Research

  • Karl Eriksson is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee surgery, and
researches ways to improve the care of patients with cruciate ligament and
meniscus damage. An important aspect of his research involves clinical
studies that evaluate surgical techniques and treatment principles. He has
also investigated other aspects of soft-tissue injuries of the knee, such as
    risk factors and socioeconomic consequences.
Karl Eriksson was the first person to study the regrowth of the
semitendinosus tendon, which is often transplanted to replace a damaged
cruciate ligament. He has also shown that, contrary to accepted wisdom in the
field, there are no downsides of early surgery for cruciate ligament injuries
using the standard methods. He has recently developed a new surgical
technique for replacing a damaged meniscus with tendon tissue.
