I am a Professor in Cancer Epidemiology and since 2011 Deputy chair at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. My research focuses on the etiology of breast cancer in a very broad sense.
Main research focus: Breast cancer prognosis
There are both host (patient) and tumor characteristics that define breast cancer prognosis, as well as treatment response and complications. The central concept of my research agenda is to acquire a comprehensive picture of the determinants of prognosis in breast cancer patients using high quality epidemiological studies, molecular data and state-of-the-art analyses to combine information on patient and tumor determinants. The main aims of my current research are the following:
- To determine genetic variants associated with prognosis of breast cancer (inherited alterations)
- To identify novel breast- tumor specific markers for disease progression (somatic alterations)
- To study the long-term breast cancer prognosis as well as the panorama of diseases in breast cancer survivors.
