About me

I am a critical care nurse with a PhD in Health and Care Sciences, University of Gothenburg (2020). At Karolinska Institute, I have a joint deployment as University Lecturer and postdoc (50/50). I am also board member of the Swedish Association of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Nurses Rf AnIva (2019-) (

Research description

My research areas of interest are patient safety, critical care, patient transfers, postoperative recovery, health literacy, complex healthcare interventions, and psychometrics. I am member of research group Perioperative Care at NVS ( 

Postoperative neurocognitive recovery

This research programs overall aims to explore cognitive decline after surgery, test and evaluate a digital cognitive screening tool, investigate patients experiences of cognitive recovery, as well as to investigate potential associations between neurocognitive decline, health literacy, early postoperative confusion and dementia among older persons undergoing surgery. The research program consists of the following projects:

CoME- Cognitive Measurements and Experiences

The project aims to explore patients’ experiences of their early postoperative cognition after orthopaedic surgery in relation to postoperative neurocognitive function assessed with validated neuropsychological tests, inflammatory signalling molecules and quality of postoperative recovery as well as to describe the relative’s view of early postoperative cognition.

DiCASS-Digital Cognitive Assessment and Support after Surgery

The project aims to evaluate the effect of cognitive monitoring and support on patient's postoperative recovery and to study health economy aspects as well as to describe patients’ experience of the cognitive monitoring and support.

Health Literacy

The aim of the project is to translate and psychometrically evaluate the Health literacy Survey European Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q16), and the short version (HLS-EU-Q6), as well the eHealth health literacy scale (eHeals) to Swedish and Arabic. The project also aims to explore health literacy and eHealth literacy among Arabic migrants in Sweden.
