About me
Professor of Structural Biology
Research description
My group studies the molecular basis of egg-sperm interaction at fertilization, a topic that is directly relevant to both understanding human infertility and identifying potential new methods of non-hormonal contraception. In parallel, we investigate a set of proteins that contain the same zona pellucida (ZP) module found in egg coat subunits but perform completely different biological functions. This part of our work has implications for the treatment of urinary tract infections - the most common type of non-epidemic bacterial infection in humans -, as well as kidney and vascular diseases.
