Research description
During my doctoral research period, I mainly focused on women with increased hereditary risk of breast cancer who underwent risk-reducing mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction up to 20 years ago. We specifically studied the long-term health-related quality of life, anxiety and depressive symptoms, body image, sexuality, and satisfaction with the reconstructive outcome from the women and their partners' perspective, and from a more objective perspective using three-dimensional image analysis. I was honoured to defend my thesis on the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2021. Currently I am focusing on applying my experiences with patient-reported outcomes and three-dimensional imaging with an aim to improve patient care and planning of individualised treatment options in the clinical setting. Other professional interests are teaching and learning in higher education as well as creating medical illustrations.
