Research description

Prosthetic Aortic Heart Valves

When the aortic heart valve is diseased it is often necessary to undergo surgery to replace the diseased valve with an artificial heart valve (aortic prosthesis). The type of prosthesis chosen is often based on the patient´s age. In this project, we analyse specific prosthesis-related factors associated with morbidity and mortality after aortic valve replacement. We also compare the long-term results after aortic valve replacement with different types of prostheses. The aim with this project is that an increased knowledge about different types of aortic valve prostheses will lead to a better choice of aortic valve prosthesis in the individual patient.
