About me

I am a trained movement scientist holding a PhD in medical science with a great passion for creative data driven research. I am a specialist in method and product development for public health, occupational health, ergonomics, and biomechanics.

Research description

For public health, I developed several new methods to accurately measure free-living physical behaviour with a particular focus on sedentary behaviour (i.e. inactive sitting). Moreover, I developed a new activity-promoting office chair (see video) and examined it together with sit-stand desks in numerous studies. My research in biomechanics explores the causal relationship of the critical shoulder angle with osteoarthritis and rotator cuff tears.

As former chief responsible of a motion lab at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, I am a professional user of optical motion capture systems, force and pressure sensors, various types of inertial measurement units, as well as EMG systems and indirect calorimetry. I have in-depth data processing and analysis skills in MATLAB®, including the statistics and machine learning toolbox.

I like to initiate new projects, get straight to the point, and think outside the box every day. In doing so, I co-authored granted funding applications of EUROSTARS, Innosuisse, and the Swiss National Science Foundation woth > 2 milion EUR, and recieved an excellence scholarship from the Swiss National Science Foundation to move to Karolinska Institutet.

Teaching portfolio

I have teaching experience at Bachelor, Master, and PhD level from four universities: Karolinska Institutet, Zurich University of Applied Sciences, University of Berne, and ETH Zurich. My lectures and trainings covered topics in artificial intelligence, muscle physiology, shoulder biomechanics, and scientific writing. I regularly  supervise Bachelor and Master students in Physiotherapy, Movement Science, and Engineering.
