Research description
The projects that I am currently involved in as an assistant professor have two main focuses, namely, psychiatric morbidity and work disability/ labour market marginalization. One of the projects, ‘REMAIN (Refugee Minors and Integration)’, is a collaboration between five research groups from four European countries with an aim to gain knowledge on strategies to improve the social integration of refugee minors with mental ill-health. Another project is on depressive and anxiety disorders and work disability patterns among young workers who are employed in the private sector, with a special focus on the importance of work environment factors. The third project looks into ADHD among the young adults employed in the private sector and how the diagnosis and treatment affect their labour market attachment and work disability.
My recent postdoc was on posttraumatic stress disorders (PTSD) in Sweden. We aimed to identify prevalence and incidence of PTSD in Sweden, major risk factors, and consequences. During my earlier postdoc assignments, I was involved in diversified projects including schizophrenia, common mental disorders, low back pain, acute myocardial infarction, sleep disturbances and fatigue, refugee and migration.
Our research is based on real world data from different Swedish nationwide registers, i.e. Longitudinal integrated database for health insurance and labour market studies (LISA), Micro-Data for Analysis of the Social Insurance System (MiDAS), Longitudinal database for integration studies (STATIV), National patient register, Cause of death register, Prescribed drug register, Multigeneration register, Swedish medical birth register, etc. My doctoral education at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, was on 'Disability pension due to common mental disorders - subsequent psychiatric morbidity and suicidal behavior', which was also based on real world data from Swedish nationwide registers.
I use different statistical analyses by using different techniques and programs, e.g., SAS and SPSS. I have frequently used Survival analysis, Generalized Estimating Equations, Group-based trajectory analyses, multinomial logistic regression etc. Based on the findings, I have so far published 22 papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
