About me

  • Teresa Sörö has been employed at Karolinska Institutet since 2012 and has over the years been responsible for, and driven pedagogical projects and assignements with a focus on learner-centred and dialogue-based teaching. For the past four years, Teresa has been the Head of Continuous Learning and professional development within the Unit for Teaching and Learning. In that position, she has had the opportunity to, together with her co-workers create an organization to promote and support the continuous learning among KI's employees to give them opportunities to keep up to date in teaching and learning within health professions education.

The work includes resources and activities for educators to implement the Pedagogical policy, working with psycholgoical safety, inclusivity and student centeredness as well as activities as the lunch seminars the unit has run during the pandemic, expansion of educational resources on the web, planning and implementation of the KI-Mayo research meeting, the KI Educational Congress x3 and the production of the PAPER Podcast [1] She has also been project leader for several projects run by the Board of Education, "KI Pedagogical Plan" and "Studentbarometern" to mention two.

Her time at KI started at the Medical Case Center, where she was responsible for their educational activities. Teresa has vast experience in the implementation of Case based learning in different settings. In 2007, she, together with a colleague developed and ran the specialist nursing programme in intensive care at the Swedish Red Cross University College with case methodology as a pedagogical cornerstone.

In recent years, she has also immersed herself and taught about how interactive learning can be used in continuing education and as part of lifelong learning. For a few years, she had the opportunity to divide her time between KI and Karolinska University Hospital's Perioperative Medicine and Intensive Care (PMI) function where she serves as an educational resource and developer. The collaboration was driven to be able to strengthen the educational activities at PMI while bridging the gap between the academy and health care.

Majority of her time as a nurse, Teresa worked at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (BIVA) at the Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital. Change and development work has always been a driving force and Teresa had for several years a shared position between BIVA and R&D where she trained nurses at Karolinska University Hospital. In 2007, she mainly stopped working clinically in order to move fully to teaching positions at the college.
Teresa Sörö is genuinely interested in what makes us learn and how interactive pedagogical methods can create opportunities for critical thinking and analytical skills. She wants to develop interactivity so that it is present both in physical meetings and digitally, as well as in the informal environments we as a college/university can influence.

Teresa Sörö graduated as a nurse from Sophiahemmet University in 1995, as well as a Pediatric specialist nurse 2001 and Master's degree from Karolinska Institutet. Teresa has pedagogical training for university teachers and has deepened her pedagogical studies at Harvard Macy Institute at Harvard Medical School and Monash University as well as Harvard Business School.
