I studied Medicine at Lisbon University 1993-1999, and did my AT-block at the Lisbon University Hospital 2000-2001. I received a PhD fellowship from the Foundation for Science and Technology, Portugal and defended a PhD thesis in experimental neuroscience of brain ischemia and diabetes at the Karolinska Institutet, 2006.
After a postdoc in brain metabolism focusing on monocarboxylate transporters, Department of Physiology, Lausanne, Switzerland, I initiated a ST-block in neurology at the Department of Neurology, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV), which I later completed at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, 2012. I am a trained cerebrovascular ultrasonographist and regularly teach undergraduate students.
