Research

  • Volkan Özenci is a senior consultant at the Karolinska University
    Laboratory. His research focus is to improve clinical microbiological
    diagnostics. He has developed several methods including a fast technique for
    the analysis of bacteria in blood poisoning (sepsis) that cuts the time from
    24 hours to two to four hours. Today, it is in clinical use at 40 per cent of
    Europe’s major clinical laboratories.
    His research group conducts clinical studies in collaboration with a wide
    range of medical technology companies and has pending patent applications of
    its own. The group performs research for development towards more
    environmentally friendly clinical laboratories, given the fact that the
    hospitals has extremely high plastic consumption.

Teaching

  • Volkan Özenci is an experienced lecturer with several pedagogical awards and
    leads several courses in clinical microbiology in the medical program at KI.
