Research residency programme (Forskar-ST)
A research residency programme (forskar-ST) provides financial support for a period of research during a clinical residency, and is available to all registered doctoral students on a residency programme.
About the research residency programme
A research residency is worth SEK 400,000 a year for two years with the option of a two-year extension and is to be used as salary during the research period. The aim is to enable students to combine their residency with research on a 50% basis.
Calls for application
The KI-Region Stockholm research council issues calls for research residency applications once a year.
Announcement period: 1 February – 16 March 2021 at 4 p.m.
Applications are made on https://researchweb.org/is/stockholm during the application period.
Funding decisions are normally taken in June, with funding normally disbursed from 1 January the following year.
Who can apply?
Applicants for a research residency must:
- be employed as a resident physician (as defined on their employment contract) by Region Stockholm or at a unit that has an agreement with the council at the time of application
- have successfully completed a maximum of 42 residency months (including all completed residencies),
- be a registered doctoral student yet to complete their half-time review at the time of application.
Evaluation of the programme
In the spring of 2021, an anonymous survey was sent out to those awarded the “clinical career programmes” (including the research residency programme, forskar-ST) and forskar-AT.
