Research description

Hans Persson is a cardiologist and researches heart failure. Over the past decade, his work has focused largely on improving the organisation and logistics of heart failure care and research, including the introduction of heart failure clinics. He headed up 4D Hjärtsvikt, a joint KI-Region Stockholm project that greatly improved heart failure care in the region and changed the national heart failure care programme.

Hans Persson is particularly interested in the diastolic form of heart failure – heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, HFpEF, – which affects many more women than men and is less researched. He has helped to improve diagnosis and risk assessment in this field. He will now be researching the biological mechanisms of HFpEF in order to identify possible new drug targets. This work will be done in collaboration with SciLifeLab, amongst other facilities, and be based on a new biobank that he has helped to set up.
