Time to elect Faculty Members to KI's University Board (Konsistoriet)

On 5 September, the election period begins to appoint new faculty members to KI's University Board. During May, employees and students had the opportunity to nominate candidates for the role as faculty member on KI's board. Now, a total of three positions need to be filled.

Annika Östman Wernerson: We need a new resource allocation model

Welcome to the 2024 autumn term! The new term starts on 2 September, and I look forward to seeing all our students back on campus. Many of us at KI have already begun preparations, but nothing beats the excitement of roll-calls, campus days, and the welcome ceremony for new students.

Decision on new resource allocation model for research grants

On 30 August, the President announced her decision to adopt a new model for the allocation of government research grants. The model, which grants a flat-rate allocation to all departments, will come into effect in 2025.

KI’s environmental efforts pay off

KI’s ambition is to halve its emissions of greenhouse gases by 2030 and become climate neutral. In 2018, KI topped the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s list of the ten public authorities with the greatest CO₂ footprint from long-haul flights. It is gratifying to find that in its 2023 environmental management report, KI is no longer on that list.

During September and October you can take a guided tour of the Jacob Berzelius exhibition at Biomedicum. Berzelius (1779-1848) is one of Sweden's most prominent scientists of all time so take the chance to hear more about a fascinating life story.

Jennifer Cleland has been awarded the Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education (KIPRIME) 2024. Her scientific work has had a significant influence on the development of medical education worldwide.

Freezer failure at Neo

External reviewers support previous conclusions about the freezer failure

The external review of the previous internal investigation into the freezer failure in Neo during the Christmas holidays 2023, supports the conclusions and recommendations of the internal report. This was clear when the external investigation was presented to KI's management and affected staff on 20 August. Updated with the English version of the report.

KI's Educational Congress is aimed at those who are involved in teaching and interested in educational issues. Our keynote speakers are Gabrielle Finn and the winner of KIPRIME. Registration is now open!

Information about Mpox for KI staff and students

Mpox is caused by a DNA virus belonging to the Ortho poxvirus. Mpox is divided into two types: clade 1 and clade 2. So far, there has been one case of clad 1 in Sweden. The WHO considers the risk of widespread infection in Europe to be low. Karolinska Institutet refers to the information from the Public Health Agency of Sweden.
