Maria Morelló Miravet
PhD Student
Maria is a PhD-student in Professor Mielke’s group. Her doctoral project explores how immunity can be harnessed and redirected against ovarian cancer, a disease with a substantial unmet medical need.
About me
Maria obtained her M.D. from Linköping University in 2020 and performed her degree project about induced pluripotent stem cells at the Heart Research Institute in Sydney. Since 2020, Maria has worked clinically in the cell- and gene therapy field, serving as a physician at Karolinska’s Department of Cell Therapy and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation (CAST). During this time, Maria gained growing interest in developing novel advanced immunotherapies against cancer, and in late 2021 she joined Professor Mielke’s group as a Ph.D. student.
Maria’s doctoral project explores how immunity can be harnessed and redirected against ovarian cancer, a disease with a substantial unmet medical need. More specifically, Maria works on understanding the tumor immune milieu and how different immune cells can be optimized or genetically modified to improve their anti-tumor potential further. In 2021, Maria also started her position as an intern physician at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge. Maria will complete her medical internship (AT) in early 2023.
