About me
Marika Ström joined Medical Statistics Unit (Medstat) at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) as a statistician in april 2023 where she works with statistical consultation and teaching.
She defended her thesis at the Respiratory Medicine Unit at the Department of Medicine Solna. Her thesis involved studies of subphenotypes of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) caused by smoking as well as caused by preterm birth. She developed an R package and workflow for applying the multivariable method OPLS (orthogonal projections for latent structures) for selecting biomarkers from omics data. Her aim was to unravel the mechanisms related to the subphenotypes with the long term goal to find diagnostics and therapeutics for the diseases.
She has long experience from process development in the pharmaceutical industry optimizing chemical processes of active pharmaceutical ingredients through experimental design, automation and validation.
Her toolbox includes statistics and bioinformatics using R and SIMCA including analysis on high-performance computer clusters.
