About me

I teach medical anthropology, transcultural care, public health and research methods at the department of nursing at Karolinska Institutet. I have a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Chicago (1997). I have written a book, Feeding Desire: Fatness, Beauty and Sexuality among a Saharan People (Routledge, 2004) based on fieldwork in Niger, and co-authored numerous articles on culture and health.  Recently I have published, along with co-authors, an article aimed at helping students and their supervisors assess and summarize the results of scientific studies in general literature reviews, Popenoe, Rebecca & Langius-Eklöf, Ann & Stenwall, Ewa & Jervaeus, Anna. (2021). A practical guide to data analysis in general literature reviews. Nordic Journal of Nursing Research.
