About me

Serhiy Dekhtyar is an assistant professor at ARC. He will examine the role of socioeconomic, biographic, and psychosocial risk factors for multimorbidity in aging study populations using data from the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care (SNAC-K). The aim of his project  is to map out longitudinal trajectories of multimorbidity in individuals aged 60+ and to connect inter-individual differences in the levels of multimorbidity burden, as well as its change over time, with socioeconomic, psychosocial, and leisure exposures measured at various phases over the life course.

Serhiy Dekhtyar obtained his PhD in 2013 from the Centre for Economic Demography at Lund University. During his postdoctoral training at Karolinska Institutet (Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Division of Psychology; Herlitz research group), Serhiy investigated the role of intellectual stimulation over the life course and the risk of dementia disorders in late life. He has also done work on contextual effects in cognitive ageing, as well as gender differences in cognition and their effects on career gender segregation in Sweden. In 2016, Serhiy was awarded a grant from the Aktiestinsen foundation to study the effects of cognitive and non-cognitive skills on inter-individual differences in academic achievement and career attainment.
