About me

I am an assistant professor at the Clinical Epidemiology Division, Department of Medicine Solna, Karolinska Institutet. My research focuses on how lifestyle factors affects our health. I primarily study the effects of physical activity and sedentary behaviors, diet and anthropometric measures on different aspects of health. During my thesis work, I developed and validated web-based questionnaires to assess physical activity. I also investigated how physical activity and body weight affect the risk of developing prostate cancer and the survival after a diagnosis. During my time as a post doc at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, I studied how patterns of physical activity and sedentary behaviors measured using accelerometers affect our health. Today I work with several large intervention studies evaluating the use of different smartphone-apps to promote physical activity or healthy dietary habits.

Research description

My research is mainly focused on work within the fields of physical activity, diet, e-epidemiology, and cancer epidemiology.

Physical activity and diet – Methods for measuring physical activity and dietary intake in epidemiological settings. I have worked with developing and validating physical activity and dietary questionnaires. In my current research I focus on patterns of physical activity and sedentary time or dietary intake in relation to different health outcomes. I  also run several randomized trials evaluating the effects of smartphone-apps developed to support healthy lifestyle choices, including physical activity and dietary intake.

Cancer epidemiology – Lifestyle factors and the prevention of prostate cancer and survival after a cancer diagnosis. My studies include associations between lifestyle factors, including body weight, weight change and physical activity, and their relation to prostate cancer risk and survival.

E-epidemiology – Development and validation of new web-based questionnaires to assess physical activity and diet among children, teenagers and adults, and a smartphone-app for physical activity.
