About me

Lecturer at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Science and Society, PhD in Medical Sciences (epidemiology and biostatistics), Registered Physiotherapist with a specialisation in Orthopedic Manual Therapy

I gained my degree in physiotherapy from Karolinska Institutet in 1987 and have until 2008 worked as a clinician focused on orthopedic manual therapy and sports medicine. In 2008 I started my doctoral studies in the Health Care Sciences Postgraduate School, registered at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, KI, and defended my thesis titled “Back and neck pain. Factors of importance for the prognosis” in 2013. My PhD is in the area of epidemiology and biostatistics.

Since 2011 I hold a position as a lecturer at the Division of Physiotherapy mainly teaching and supervising in the physiotherapy bachelor program but also in master level courses. During  2020 and 2021, I will combine my employment at KI (20%) with a position as senior lecturer in medical science at Dalarna University (80%), https://www.du.se/.

Research description

My research has so far been focused on epidemiological methods to study the effect of physical activity and other lifestyle factors on risk and prognosis in relation to pain and dysfunction in the back and neck, both in a public health perspective and in a clinical perspective. I also have a specific interest in sports and sports medicine, for example reliability and validity of strength tests. I am a member of two research groups: the MUSIC group (Musculoskeletal & Sports Injury Epidemiology Center) at KI and the RePS group (The Research Center for Public Health and Sports) at Dalarna University. During late 2019 and 2020 I have been project manager, leading a research collaboration between RePS and the Swedish Armed Forces were we developed and validated a protocol for indentification and characterisation of critical physical worktasks in war positions.

Teaching portfolio

My teaching includes musculoskeletal health, physical activity / exercise, sports medicine, medical science (epidemiology / biostatistics) as well as scientific method and scientific writing. At Dalarna University, I am the program manager for the Master's program in physiotherapy, 60 credits.
