Organisation at the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC)

CLINTEC's main activities are undergraduate and postgraduate education, research and development. Some of our divisions focus almost exclusively on education, while others concentrate mainly on research.

A common denominator of our divisions is their clinical connection and close collaboration with a clinic at Karolinska University Hospital.

The research areas represent the entire human body, from children to adults, and include specialities such as ear, nose and throat, nephrology, obstetrics and gynaecology, general surgery, orthopaedics, transplantation, urology, medical imaging and radiography as well as anaesthesia and intensive care.

In much the same way as the President has delegated considerable responsibility to the Heads of Departments at KI, the Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC) has delegated responsibility to the fourteen Heads of the Divisions.

The Head of Department is supported by an office comprising Head of Administration, financial administration, communication, administration, HR  and doctoral programme administration. In addition, there are a number of steering groups, such as the Management Group, Departmental Council, Working Environment Committee, Undergraduate Committee, Postgraduate Committee, and Collaboration Group.

Management Group

The Management Group meets about twice a month and is a support for the Head of Departments decision making.

Postgraduate Committe

The Postgraduate Committe at CLINTEC has overall responsibility for the admission procedure to the doctoral programme at the department.

Departmental Council

Each department shall have a Departmental Council to deal with matters of a principal or a cross departmental nature. The function of the Departmental Council is to be consultative, to be a forum for dialogue and to anchor the Head of Department's decisions.

Undergraduate Committee

The Board of Education (UN) CLINTEC has overall responsibility for the Department's entire educational assignment. This responsibility includes programmes, programme courses at CLINTEC and other programmes, elective courses, independent courses and contract training.

Administration

Each division at CLINTEC is led by a professor/senior lecturer assisted by an administrator.

The administrative work of each divison mainly covers researcher support and undergraduate and contract education. It also involves a certain amount of financial, human resource and postgraduate administration along with other general administrative tasks.

The rest of CLINTEC's administrative work is done centrally, most importantly the day-to-day accounting, financial follow-ups/analyses, personnel matters, postgraduate education and IT and web. CLINTEC's Head of Administration has the responsibility for its overall administrative operations. The office of the Head of Department employs a total of eight full-time staff, including the Head of Administration. The office is a shared resource able to offer integrated competence on different areas.
