Q&A on the recycling of food waste at KI

The first phase of implementation takes place at Aula Medica and the administration building in Solna from 4 September to 6 October 2023.

The Facilities Office and environmental coordinators will be evaluating the success of the programme in the administration building and Aula Medica in October. A plan will then be drawn up for implementing the food waste recycling programme throughout KI. It is hoped that the programme will be up and running before 1 January 2024.
- Raw and cooked food scraps
- Fruit and vegetable peel
- Egg shells and seafood
- Tea leaves, coffee grounds and paper teabags and coffee filters
- Kitchen roll/uncoloured serviettes (which are also good for soaking up moisture in the bag).
- Fill the bag to only two thirds of the way up.
- Let wet waste drain in the sink before discarding in the bag.
- Wrap sticky food in a piece of kitchen roll.

- Coloured kitchen roll/serviettes

- Large meat and fish bones
- Chopsticks and ice-cream sticks
- Chewing gum and tobacco (snus, cigarettes, etc.)
- Coffee pods.
Remember that there are separate bins for paper, plastic, glass and metal in every kitchen or dining room. Recycle more!
Carelessly recycled waste degrades the quality of the recycled material. At the very worst, the waste will not be treatable as intended and KI will risk a fine if it happens on a large scale.

No. Put your food waste in one of the bags available in the nearest kitchen or dining room.

No. Food waste, like all other waste fractions, is handled separately in our environment stations and refuse rooms and collected regularly by KI’s waste contractor.
