Purpose
Karolinska Institutet is posting this grant call for recruitment of postdoc with Clinical Translational Focus in collaboration with SciLifeLab. The purpose of the call is to support clinical translational research by enabling the recruitment of a researcher at the postdoc level who shall be affiliated wholly or in part to SciLifeLab and who shall conduct research is collaboration with clinical practice. By Clinical Translational Focus this call intends research that includes clinical samples and/or data from patients as well as methods or competence at SciLifeLab with the purpose to e.g., develop treatments or diagnostics for diseases.

The grant is funded by the Karolinska Institutet’s SFO grant for SciLifeLab and is an initiative from the Karolinska Institutet SciLifeLab Committee.

 

Description of the call
The grant may be applied for by a team consisting of a main applicant at Karolinska Institutet together with a co-applicant.

The grant shall contribute to the funding of salary for a postdoc over two years and must be used within four years of the start of employment. The grant amount is 750 tkr/year for two years (1 500 tkr in total).

The application shall consist of a project description in English, max two pages, CV for both applicants of max two pages each (in total four pages), as well as ten publications for each applicant (max 20 publications in total).
 

Eligibility to apply
You are eligible to apply if you have completed your doctoral degree and are employed or affiliated to KI.


Co-applicants
The grant must be applied for by two applicants together as a team. Either the main applicant of the co-applicant must be affiliated to SciLifeLab, and one of the applicants must be a clinically active researcher.

For example, a clinically active researcher at KI and Region Stockholm may be the main applicant together with a researcher from another university affiliated to SciLifeLab as co-applicant, or a researcher at KI affiliated to SciLifeLab may be the main main applicant together with a clinically active researcher not affiliated to KI or SciLifeLab as the co-applicant.

The grant is for salary costs (incl. overhead) for a postdoc so the department must guarantee other necessary funding including any difference to the real salary for the postdoc during the time of their employment. The source of this funding must be specified in the application.

 

Size and administration of the grant
The grant is administered by the main applicant’s department. The department is responsible for the recruitment of the postdoc position. The grant is paid 4 times/year. The first payment will take place in the first quarter after the start of the postdoc employment, March 2020 at the earliest. The grant may be used until the end of four years after the start of the employment.

 

Review criteria
Applications shall be reviewed by a panel of experts based on the following criteria: competence (main applicant and co-applicant), novelty of research, quality of research, feasibility and relevance to the clinical translational focus and SciLifeLab.

 

Reporting
Successful applicants will need to submit reports to the Karolinska Insitutet SciLifeLab Committee according to instructions that will be shared at a later date.
