New text matching tool at KI
From 20 April, KI will have a new tool for detecting plagiarism: Inspera Originality. Read more about what you need to know and the support we offer.

New text-matching tool – KI changes from Ouriginal to Inspera Originality.

6 April – Inspera Originality becomes available in Canvas.
17 April – Last day to use Ouriginal. In the afternoon the system will be shut down, and only Inspera Originality will be available for text matching. Assignments in Canvas that have not been updated will no longer be text‑matched.

What you need to do as the course responsible
If you own a course in Canvas, you need to update your assignments for text matching to take place. From 6 April to 17 April, you can go in and change the system used for text matching in Canvas. A video with instructions is provided below.
How to switch text‑matching tool
- Open the assignment as a teacher.
- Click Edit.
- Scroll down to Plagiarism Review.
- Change the selected tool so that it says Inspera Originality. You can leave the settings under the tool selection as they are.
- Save at the bottom of the page.
How to download a report created with the old tool
- Open the submission in SpeedGrader.
- Click on the percentage value.
- At the top, far to the right, you should see the text Options. You may need to zoom in your browser.
- Click Options and select Export Report.

What will be new?
As a user, you will encounter an interface with a new look, while much of the functionality will feel familiar. The text-matching report works largely as before, with color highlights indicating matches with previously published material.
However, navigation within the report and the presentation of matching sources have been adjusted. Guides on how to use and navigate the new text-matching report will be published shortly.
Why is the change taking place?
The change is due to Ouriginal’s provider being acquired and discontinuing the service. The transition between the tools at KI will take place in the second half of April 2026. The new tool, Inspera Originality, has been selected through a joint procurement process via Sunet.
