Text matching tool at KI
Inspera Originality is a text-matching tool that helps ensure academic integrity. The tool compares submitted texts against a large number of sources, such as previous student work from other higher education institutions, publications, and web content, and highlights text similarities. The result provides support for assessment – the detection of similarities does not automatically mean plagiarism, but always requires human interpretation.

As the course responsible, you need to do this to ensure that text matching is carried out for submitted assignments.
As the person responsible for a course in Canvas, you need to update all assignments that use plagiarism checking to Inspera Originality. This is done by opening the assignment in Canvas and selecting Inspera Originality as the text-matching tool for the relevant assignments. It is possible to enable plagiarism checking and perform checks retrospectively on submitted work if something was missed.
How to switch text‑matching tool
- Open the assignment (as a teacher).
- Click Edit.
- Scroll down to Plagiarism Review.
- Change the selected tool so that Inspera Originality is selected. The settings under the tool selection can be left as they are.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Note! Plagiarism review settings only apply to assignments with the submission type: Online, with either Text Entry or File Upload.

What will be new?
As a user, you will encounter an interface with a new look, while much of the functionality will feel familiar. The text-matching report works largely as before, with color highlights indicating matches with previously published material.
However, navigation within the report and the presentation of matching sources have been adjusted. Guides on how to use and navigate the new text-matching report will be published shortly.
