Canvas Catalog – a platform for open courses at KI

Karolinska Institutet uses Canvas Catalog as a system to provide access to open courses, commissioned education, and internal training. The platform enables both internal and external audiences to participate in KI’s digital courses, supporting lifelong learning.

What is Canvas Catalog?

Canvas Catalog is a portal for open courses, created in a separate instance of Canvas to distinguish them from KI’s regular educational programs. The aim is to make courses accessible to everyone—regardless of background or circumstances.

Canvas Catalog is used to:

  • Publish open courses (MOOC-like)
  • Manage commissioned education
  • Offer internal training for KI staff

Courses can be fully open, require KI login, or be accessible via direct link. Most courses are self-paced, but some have fixed start dates.

KI’s Canvas Catalog courses are available here.

Ongoing review and future plans

During 2025–2026, a review of Canvas Catalog will be conducted to evaluate functionality, user-friendliness, framework, terms of use, roles, responsibilities, and resource usage. A decision regarding the platform’s future direction is planned for 2026. Some adjustments may be made as early as 2025. More information about this process will be published on this page.
