Information for you who work with HR at KI
Residence status for British citizens who lived in Sweden before 31st of December 2020
British citizens who lived in Sweden before 31st of December 2020 should apply for residence status at the Swedish Migration Agency. The application period ends on the 31st of December 2021. Those who are granted residence status will in principle have the same right to live and work in Sweden as EU citizens. It is important that British citizens who fulfil the criteria for residence status apply before the application period ends. You can find more information about the residence status for British citizens on the Swedish Migration Agency webpage.
Residence permit for British citizens who move to Sweden after 31st of December 2020
British citizens who move to Sweden after 31st of December 2020 have to apply for residence permit in Sweden. The same rules apply as for other non-EU citizens.
As an employer KI has a duty to check that a person we employ, who is not an EU citizen, has a right to be and work in Sweden. As the UK no longer is a member of the EU, you need to check that British citizens you employ have a right to be and work in Sweden. You can read more about our responsibilities as an employer on the Migration Agency’s website.
On the page International Staff Services for HR you will find extensive information about recruiting and receiving international staff at KI.
