This is the operational plan for the Faculty Office and International Relations 2024.

Remit and responsibilities

The responsibility of the Faculty Office and International Relations (FIR) is to provide strategic and operational support to the KI management, Faculty Board, committees and other management bodies on matters relating to education, research, infrastructure, internationalisation, collaboration with Region Stockholm, quality systems and quality assurance, and to equal opportunities, environment and climate and sustainable development.

Responsibilities under Karolinska Institutet’s strategic focus areas

  • To clarify roles, mandates and responsibilities between line and collegial bodies in the management organisation (participates).
  • To review boards and committees for greater clarity and transparency (shared with SMO).
  • Common governance, planning and follow-up process for the university (shared with SMO).
  • Strengthened, coordinated and clearer administrative support for KI’s collaboration with the healthcare services (shared).
  • The process for determining which areas the KI management is to prioritise (shared with CPRO).
  • Networks for continual dialogue with higher education institutions and other relevant public authorities ahead of future health crises.
  • A coherent organisation for KI's research infrastructure for increased quality and efficiency (participates)

Other prioritised focus areas 

  • The development of responsible internationalisation.
  • Environment and climate: clarification of roles, responsibilities and the organisation of KI’s environmental efforts and revision of KI’s environmental policy.
  • Quality assurance: to review responsibilities and roles in the coherent quality system and build up/establish the quality system in research.
  • To inventory KI’s research by subject (with RSO and KIB). 
  • The Centre for Health Crises: To be evaluated in 2024
