Operational plan for the Teaching and Learning unit

This is the operational plan for the Teaching and Learning unit 2024.

The responsibility of the Teaching and Learning Unit is to create pedagogical conditions for first, second and third-cycle education of a high standard at KI. This means that we work for everyone who contributes to our educational mission – i.e. everyone who plans, implements, evaluates and leads education at all levels at KI. We also work closely and ideally co-create, with teachers and pedagogical leaders to ensure the relevance of our activities and strengthen the skills and mandate of our professors and lecturers.

We also have responsibility for digital pedagogical infrastructure (systems) and for producing source material on which to base the design and layout of physical teaching environments. Other responsibilities include pedagogical skills development in line with KI’s employment rules, the guidelines issued by the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions and, to a certain degree, the region’s skills ladder; facilitating development by acquiring skilled persons for strategic pedagogical projects and helping to ensure that teacher development is evidence-based and research-tied; and for making sure opportunities are provided for continual skills development in relation to current developments and organisational learning by creating forums for dialogue and teacher networking in order to build a community that drives educational quality.

Our own focus areas for our development over the coming years are:

  • to examine how we need to adapt the unit to the increased costs of digitisation
  • to create increased value by developing our internal and external collaborations
  • to set a clear structure for how we measure and learn from what we do and to link up to KI’s quality system
  • to contribute to the work being done on premises utilisation and to take charge of the unit’s premises and needs.

We have many projects every year, but we rarely know before the start of the year what they will be. However, major issues will include:

  • The implementation of the digital portfolio
  • The implementation of TBL in the 6-year medical programme
  • The role of AI in teaching and examination
  • To curate collections: security, cataloguing, care of objects, collection, organisation
  • To make collections accessible to researchers, students, artists, journalists, etc; loans to museums and libraries
  • Knowledge development on the history of KI in relation to local, national and global medical and scientific history (LIME; visiting researcher programme)
  • Promulgate knowledge about medical history and the history and cultural heritage of KI: tours,  lectures, exhibitions, events (aimed at external + internal groups)
  • Interact with KI’s departments and operational units and external businesses and the general public (lectures, tours, exhibitions, publications, consultancy, knowledge promulgation).
