Call for funding to support a research conference
The Committee for Research (KF) is hereby announcing funding to support the organisation of a research conference.
Purpose
The Committee for Research (KF) aims to strengthen the quality of KI’s research by increasing opportunities for KI researchers to organise research conferences that create strategic benefit for KI’s activities. Strategic benefit may, for example, mean that the conference brings together basic and clinical researchers, encourages collaboration between KI and the region, promotes international collaboration, addresses specific problems or new fields of research, or is aimed at the public.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree no later than the application deadline and be employed at Karolinska Institutet (KI).
Applications in all subject areas are welcome from both junior and senior researchers.
The conferences may be organised in Sweden, but not abroad. They should be held at or near KI, or have a clear plan for how they will benefit many KI staff members.
Funding can only be applied for conferences to be organised during 2027.
The grant
Up to SEK 300,000 per conference may be applied for. The total budget for the call is SEK 1,500,000.
There is no requirement for co-funding from the department or other funders, but it may strengthen the application.
This grant cannot be combined with funding for interdisciplinary KI networks in research.
Assessment and assessment criteria
The assessment is carried out by the Committee for Research (KF).
The assessment criteria are:
- The strategic benefit of the conference for KI.
- How the conference will benefit many staff members at KI.
KF will also prioritise conferences with a clear link to one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Application
The application must include information about the applicant, the conference and its strategic benefit to KI.
Applications must be submitted electronically in KI Prisma no later than 12 November 2026 at 14:00.
The head of department must sign the application in Prisma.
Decision
Funding decisions are made by the Committee for Research and communicated to applicants by email.
Reporting
The funds may be used until 31 December 2027. After the end of the funding period, the applicant must submit a report in Prisma summarising the conference and its outcomes. The applicant must also report whether the funds have been used in full, in part or not at all. If the funds have not been used at all or have only been used in part during the funding period, any remaining funds must be repaid to the Committee for Research.
