Systematic quality assurance in research at KI
The systematic quality assurance work in research at KI is based on the same fundamental principles as those applied to undergraduate and postgraduate and doctoral education. Two processes form the core of this work: continuous internal monitoring and regular external review.
A coherent system
The comprehensive quality system at KI applies to both education and research, with overarching principles and processes established by the President.
Overarching processes
The systematic quality assurance work at KI is based on two overarching processes:
- Continuous internal monitoring
- Regular external review, conducted from a national and international perspective and supported by peer review
Together, these processes aim to identify strengths, areas for development, and needs for improvement and follow‑up actions.
Guidelines
In accordance with the Guidelines for Systematic Quality Assurance at Karolinska Institutet, the Faculty Board holds overall responsibility for the systematic quality assurance of research and decides on the applicable guidelines. The task of developing proposals for guidelines within specific areas, as well as following up on their implementation, is assigned to the three committees.
The Committee for Research has developed the Instructions for Systematic Quality Assurance in Research at Karolinska Institutet. The guidelines were subsequently approved by the Faculty Board.
