Recruitment of a new KI president
Karolinska Institutet (KI) president Ole Petter Ottersen’s tenure expires on 28 February 2023. The KI University Board (Konsistoriet) has therefore decided to begin an open recruitment process to propose a president and appoint a vice-president to take up office on 1 March 2023.
At its meeting of 18 October 2021, the University Board adopted new procedural directions (Föreskrifter för rekrytering av ny rektor (dnr 1-872/2021)).
The requirement profile for presidents (Kravprofil för rekrytering av rektor) drawn up by the Election Committee in consultation with KI’s heads of department and deans was adopted by the University Board on 2 December 2021.
The recruitment process is led by an Election Committee appointed by the University Board. The Election Committee is assisted by an appointed Application Committee. These committees comprise the following people:

Preliminary schedule for the recruitment of president
2022
9–25 May Candidates are interviewed by the Application Committee.
1–3 June Long-list candidates are interviewed by the Election Committee.
8–20 June Testing of short-list candidates and reference-taking.
11 August The names of the final candidates are announced whilst the candidates' CVs are distributed to the Consultative College.
6 September The University Board convenes.
14 September. The hearing of the final candidates to the position of president by the Consultative College.
20 September. The Election Committee convenes and decides who will be put forward to the University Board as candidate for the position of president.
30 September. The University Board decides which candidate to present to the Government as the new president of KI.
2023
1 March KI’s new president will take office.
