ScreenPal will be discontinued at KI
KI has chosen to focus on Canvas Studio as the centrally supported video tool for teaching and learning. Studio provides an integrated solution within Canvas, enabling educators to record, share, caption, and publish videos directly in Canvas. This creates a streamlined workflow and strengthens accessibility and course design in one unified platform. With Canvas Studio as KI’s supported video platform, the Team license for ScreenPal will be discontinued. The license ends on 29 March.
What will happen after 29 March?
After this date, ScreenPal will no longer be available as a licensed tool via KI.
After the license ends:
- You will no longer have access to ScreenPal paid/team features via KI.
- If you were using ScreenPal through KI, your account will be reverted to a free ScreenPal account, with free-plan limitations (e.g. 15-minute recording limit, bandwidth limits for playback, and no access to the Video Editor tools).
- You may still have access to your content (uploaded and local), depending on how it was saved and shared.
Keep your videos: download/export important material
If you have important videos hosted in ScreenPal, we recommend downloading/exporting them before 29 March.
Want to continue using ScreenPal after KI’s license ends?
Continue using ScreenPal after KI’s license ends
If you would like to continue using ScreenPal with full functionality after 29 March, you need to purchase an individual Solo plan (Deluxe or Max):
https://screenpal.com/plans
Before purchasing a Solo plan, you must first be removed from KI’s ScreenPal Team license no later than 20 March.
Please contact us to request that your KI email address be removed. Contact - digital teaching and learning | Staff Portal
Once removed, your ScreenPal account will automatically revert to a Free account, with basic feature limitations (such as shorter recording time and no access to advanced editing tools). However, you will still have access to all your existing content, including videos uploaded to ScreenPal and projects stored locally on your computer. You can then upgrade your account to a Solo plan.
Step-by-step: move from KI’s Team license to a personal Solo license
Step 1: Request removal from KI’s Team license
Contact KI support and ask for your ScreenPal account (KI email address) to be removed from the Team license.
Step 2: Log in to your ScreenPal account (now Free)
After you have been removed:
- Open a new web browser window (not an already logged-in ScreenPal tab)
- Go to: https://screenpal.com
- Enter your KI email address
- Complete the “verify you are human” step
- Confirm your email via the message sent to your inbox
You are now logged in to your ScreenPal account as a Free user, with your existing content available.
Step 3: Purchase a Solo plan
While logged in:
- Visit https://screenpal.com/plans
- Purchase Solo Deluxe or Solo Max
Your Solo license will automatically connect to your existing account and content.
Step 4: Continue using ScreenPal
After upgrading:
- Your previous videos and projects remain in your ScreenPal library
- You can continue using the ScreenPal desktop application
- No reinstallation is normally required
If you experience login issues in the desktop app, quit the application completely and relaunch it from the ScreenPal website.
Password help (if needed)
If you do not see the option to set or reset your password after leaving the Team license:
- Clear your browser cache
- Reload your ScreenPal profile page
- Try again to access the password reset option
Most users should be able to set their password without contacting ScreenPal support.
Alternative tool: Canvas Studio (recommended)
KI recommends Canvas Studio for screen recording and video editing going forward.
Important: Canvas Studio uses a version of the ScreenPal/Screencast-O-Matic recorder, which can conflict with the ScreenPal desktop app.
Uninstall ScreenPal before using Canvas Studio.
Please note:
- ScreenPal project files (.screenpal) cannot be imported into Canvas Studio.
- If you need to preserve editable work, export finished videos (e.g. MP4) before the license ends.
Support
ScreenPal will not provide direct support for the Canvas Studio recorder. Support questions should be directed to Contact - digital teaching and learning | Staff Portal
