Methods & tools for risk assessments

Risk assessments shall be carried out at planned changes in the operations, regularly in the operation and after the process of a casualty or occupational injury. Managers are responsible for conducting risk assessments. Security representatives and other relevant employees/students should be given the opportunity to participate. Work environment groups are also important players in risk assessments. Avonova occupational health care services may also provide assessments and analyses.

KI has several methods and tools to use in the risk assessments:

  • Daily dialogue and risk observations in everyday life. Everyone should be contributing to that.
  • Regular meetings (research groups, work environment groups etc.)
  • Performance management 1 and 2, where individual occupational health and safety aspects are addressed, not the least issues related to workload, complexity, balance and recovery at work.
  • Targeted health surveys for workers and students exposed/may be exposed to certain substances, agents, emissions.
  • KLARA, BARA, HUMRA and GMM (for laboratory activities).
  • Checks, periodically or when necessary, for work equipment and other technical devices eg. pressurized devices and eye showers.
  • Web-based employee surveys
  • Focus groups or individual deep interviews
  • Physical security checks based on KI's digital checklist. In addition to this, fire protection checks should be carried out at more frequent intervals according to the respective organization's routines (eg KI, Stockholm County Council and Stockholm County Health Care Area).
  • Measurements regarding e.g. emissions and noise-, light- and air conditions.
  • Analyzes of e.g. sickness absence and occupational health incidents.
  • Rehabilitation investigations
