Procedures in case of serious incident, threats or violence
As a staff member or student, you should feel safe and secure at KI. In the event of an emergency, threat or violence on campus, there are procedures and advice to follow. Read them to be prepared if something should happen.

In case of acute danger and threat
Call 112 (SOS Alarm).
Abnormalities and threatening situations
If something feels threatening or that deviates from normal, contact security guards:
Campus Solna: 08-524 864 29
Campus Flemingsberg: 08-524 860 60
Save the number in your phone. Security guards are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week on both KI campuses. They also have the ability to alert the police very quickly. Be prepared to provide the following:
- Your name
- KI (campus, department/centre and address)
- ‘We urgently need a security guard due to...’
Affected persons
- Remove any affected persons to a quiet and safe place. Provide physical care through kindness and support. Keep the person warm, for example with a blanket or jacket. Keep the victim under supervision.
- Do not let people who may be affected drive themselves. If the victim is home alone, try to organise company
Measures taken by the employer
In the event of death or serious injury, a description of the procedure for emergency and subsequent measures can be found at In the event of death or serious injury.
Ongoing deadly violence and terrorist attacks
Terrorist attacks can be directed against the general public, but also against symbolic targets or individuals.
Escape
- Get yourself to safety. Leave the scene as quickly and safely as possible and avoid crowds.
Find a safe place
- If you are unable to leave the area, find a place that you consider safe and that will provide you with shelter. Pay attention to what you see and hear and try to stay calm.
- Put your mobile phone on silent and turn off the vibration. Do not call anyone who may be in the danger area. Mobile phone signals can reveal a person hiding.
Alert the police
- Call 112 (SOS Alarm). The police need to know the location, what happened, how many perpetrators you saw, what they look like and where you last saw them.
- Then contact the KI security guard with the same information as above.
Personal threats
- If possible, keep a safe distance from the person making the threat. Try to remain calm.
- Be friendly, do not provoke, do not interrupt. Avoid physical contact.
- If you know the name of the person, use it.
- Try to make colleagues/students or others aware of the threat.
If threats turn into action
- Take cover and call for help from colleagues/peers or others.
- Try to remove yourself from the scene.
- Use self-defence - use the force necessary to protect yourself or save lives.
Threats or hatred via email/text/chat/internet
All forms of electronic communication leave invisible traces, so do the following:
- Save emails and messages.
- Contact the Security Manager at KI.
Threats or hatred via mail
If you receive a letter containing threats or other criminal messages, it is important to bear the following in mind:
- Do not touch the letter unnecessarily.
- Put the letter in a plastic pocket or other protective wrapping (secure traces).
- Note the date of arrival.
- Contact KI's security manager for the handover of letters.
- In cases where you recognise the type of mail as threats or harassment, do not open the mail but hand it over directly to the security manager.
Online harassment
If you are subjected to online abuse and harassment, for example through film footage or manipulated images:
- Save as a screenshot or save the page on your computer.
- Contact KI's security manager for advice.
KI will not tolerate threatening or violent behaviour at our workplace. If you or a colleague is affected, contact your immediate supervisor or Head of Safety and Security Unit. More information: Occupational Safety and Health.
Education and training
KI's training on threats, violence and ongoing lethal violence consists of the information on this page and digital material from MSB. Read it through so that you know how to act in the event of a serious incident. You can also contact the Safety and Security unit at KI.
