The conditions under which research and education collaborations with the USA operate are in danger of being undermined by decisions announced by the country’s recently instated president. Here, Karolinska Institutet’s president Annika Östman Wernerson comments on the situation and talks about what KI can do to prepare for any changes that might come.

Milestone

Over a million documents in KI’s digital register

With over a million documents in its registers, Karolinska Institutet has levelled up from a storage regime of cardboard boxes to a digital system that is both efficient and legally secure. This is a change as beneficial to the general public as it is to KI employees and researchers.

Operational plan for 2025 finalised

This year’s operational plan for KI’s Professional Services (PS) and University Library is now ready for viewing. “The joint document is intended to ease communication, enhance transparency and build a mutual understanding of how each unit contributes to KI’s shared goals in Professional Services and other parts of the university,” says University Director Veronika Sundström.

System upgrade

IDAC closed for upgrade

Between 17 and 24 March, IDAC will be closed. You will not be able to log in to IDAC or the ID portal, and no new data will be retrieved from the connected source systems Primula, UBW Anknutna, or Ladok.

It’s time to nominate candidates for KI's Prize for Innovation and Utilization, which is awarded to one to three researchers who have excelled in the utilization of research results that have led to innovation. Submit your nomination by 9 April.

Margareta Persson and Leif Lundblad to be made honorary doctors at Karolinska Institutet

Karolinska Institutet has decided to confer honorary doctorates on Margareta Persson, advocate for disability rights, and Leif Lundblad, entrepreneur and research backer. They will be awarded their honorary degrees at a ceremony in Stockholm City Hall on 16 May.

NOR awards and KI Silver Medal ceremony

Thursday 20 February saw the latest round of NOR awards, at which 34 members of the KI staff were commended for their long, impeccable service. The recipients of the 2024 KI Silver Medal, Stephan Rössner and Carol Tishelman, were also celebrated during the ceremony.

The Lennart Nilsson Award Foundation annually awards someone who has made a decisive contribution to the development of scientific photography or has carried out meritorious work in the spirit of Lennart Nilsson. Please submit your nominations by 16 April.
