Advertise for research participants – for researchers at KI

Do you need participants for your study? As a researcher at Karolinska Institutet, you can advertise for research participants both on ki.se and through digital advertising on social media. Below you can read about how the Communications and Public Relations Office can support you in planning and carrying out your advertising.

Plan in advance

Contact the Communications and Public Relations Office as early as possible – ideally already when preparing your ethics application. They can assist you in producing material for the application, which helps reduce the risk of having to submit additional information later.

Advertising on social media

For digital advertising of research studies, you are responsible for the budget. The Communications and Public Relations Office will help you plan, implement and evaluate the campaign.

You will receive support with

  • selecting channels and target groups
  • producing tailored material
  • coordinating the campaign with KI’s contracted agency
  • monitoring campaign performance and managing comments.

Recommended minimum budget: SEK 20,000–30,000, including the agency’s management fee (excluding VAT).

Please note: To advertise on social media, you must first have an advert page on ki.se.

Advertising on ki.se

All advertisements for recruiting research participants are published on the Research subjects wanted page on ki.se. You can choose to advertise only there or combine it with social media advertising.

The material you submit should include

  • the purpose of the study
  • inclusion and exclusion criteria
  • how interested individuals can register
  • contact details (preferably a KI email address)
  • the dates when the advert should be published and removed.

The main web editor at your department will draft the headline, introduction and body text based on your material. The advert page will be reviewed with you before publication. The web editor is then responsible for publishing and unpublishing the page on the specified dates.

Checklist – if you wish to advertise on social media

  • Contact the Communications and Public Relations Office early – preferably already when preparing your ethics application.
  • Create an advert page on ki.se – fill in the form and submit your material to your department’s editor.
  • Review the advert – the editor will draft the page and confirm it with you before publishing.
  • Plan the campaign – together with the Communications and Public Relations Office, decide on channels, target groups and materials.
  • Allocate a budget – at least SEK 20,000–30,000 (excluding VAT), including the agency’s management fee.
  • Follow up on the advertising – stay in contact with the Communications and Public Relations Office throughout the campaign.
