The migration to Canvas Studio continues – Step 2 is now starting
The first part of the migration to Canvas Studio has now been completed, and the project is moving on to Step 2. In this next step, existing Kaltura links and embedded content in Canvas will be replaced with corresponding videos in Canvas Studio.
Step 1: The migration to Canvas Studio is completed
Your videos have been copied to your personal Studio library and are gathered in a collection named: “migrated videos [your username]”. You can now also see your course collections.
You no longer need to check your migrated videos. However, if you want to locate your videos in Canvas Studio, there is an updated instructional video that shows:
how to find your migrated videos in Studio
how to see whether the videos are embedded in your Canvas courses
how to navigate to a specific Canvas course
where to find a video’s unique Entry ID in Canvas Studio and how to use it to check the same video in My Media in Kaltura, as well as view connections to course collections
Video overview
Carina Bois provides an overview (video 4:57 min) of how to view your migrated videos and course collections, and how to navigate to a course.
Please note that searching by Entry ID is not always reliable—try searching by the video title if you cannot find the video.
What you can expect to see in Canvas Studio
After your videos have been migrated, the following applies:
The videos are copies of the originals in Kaltura
Title, description, and other metadata have been preserved
The Entry ID from Kaltura remains (visible under Details)
Videos previously used in courses are still linked to them
When your videos have been migrated, you will find them in:
a collection named
migrated videos [your username]
Visibility of course connection in Canvas Studio
Migrated videos from Kaltura to Canvas Studio can be found in your library by searching for the video title or Entry ID. When searching, you should be able to see which course collection the video belongs to.
When you open a video from the “Migrated videos” folder in My Library, you will see “Select Embedded” with a dropdown menu under the video where all courses in which the video is embedded are listed.
The migration applies only to videos from Kaltura in Canvas, nog KI Play
If you think a video is missing, first check that it actually comes from Kaltura in Canvas (My Media/Media Gallery), and not from KI Play or another source.
An easy way to identify a Kaltura video embedded in Canvas is that the player control bar uses KI’s purple and orange colours. If you do not see the orange control bar, the video is most likely published via KI Play and is therefore not included in this migration.

What happens next?
The project is now moving into Step 2. The next step is an automated process where:
existing Kaltura links and embedded content in Canvas
are replaced with corresponding videos in Canvas Studio
Once this step is completed:
videos will be fully integrated as Studio content
course materials will use Studio instead of Kaltura
We will return with more information when the next step is complete.
