Professor Olle ten Cate.

Olle ten Cate

Olle ten Cate is Professor Emeritus of Medical Education at Utrecht University and University Medical Center Utrecht. The Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education 2026 (KIPRIME) is awarded to Professor Olle ten Cate for his significant contributions to medical education, which have transformed perspectives on professional competence and assessment in clinical practice. He is particularly known for developing the concept of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA), which is used globally in the education of healthcare professionals.

Brian Hodges

Brian Hodges is a teacher, psychiatrist and professor of medical education research at the University of Toronto, and Deputy Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer at the University Health Network. Since 2026, he has been a visiting professor at KI.  In 2016, he received the KIPRIME award, and today he serves on its committee.

Renée Stalmeijer

Renée Stalmeijer is an Associate Professor at the Department of Educational Development and Research and at Maastricht University. She is an internationally recognised researcher and has worked in healthcare professions education since 2005, combining the roles of researcher, quality assurance lead for education, and teacher of research methodology. She is also a KIPRIME Fellow.

Rune Dall Jensen 

Rune Dall Jensen is an educational developer and Associate Professor in simulation-based surgical training at the Department of Clinical Medicine,
Aarhus University, as well as Head of Simulation Activities at MidtSim, the continuing professional development centre for the Central Denmark Region, Denmark. He is also a KIPRIME Fellow.

Winners of KI’s Pedagogical Prize 2026

Nicola Orsini, senior lecturer/associate professor at the Department of Global Public Health, has played a highly significant role in the development of biostatistics education at advanced and doctoral level at KI through long-term and consistent educational leadership.

Karin Garmin Legert, specialist dental practitioner/associate professor at the Department of Dental Medicine, has for many years been a central and nationally significant driving force in the development of dental education through exceptionally strong educational leadership and a consistent focus on students.

Jonathan Sherbino

Jonathan Sherbino is Professor of Medicine at McMaster University and affiliated with Karolinska Institutet. He is an internationally recognised researcher in medical education, with a particular focus on clinical reasoning, assessment, and competency-based education.
