Ethics Council
The Ethics Council at KI is a strategic body tasked with promoting active discussions on ethics within the university. The Council is also responsible for supporting the leadership in addressing ethical issues on both national and international levels. Additionally, the Ethics Council serves as a knowledge resource for KI’s core activities, providing staff with advice and guidance.
The Ethics Council’s Mission
- To promote active discussions on ethics at KI, with a focus on educational ethics, research ethics, and medical ethics.
- To function as a knowledge bank and stay informed about developments in the field of ethics, both nationally and internationally.
- To ensure that KI’s handling of ethical issues aligns with societal values as well as the principles that apply within KI.
Within the scope of its mission, the Ethics Council determines which issues it will address. However, the President of KI may request the Council’s opinion on matters of a general nature. The Ethics Council at KI was established by the President in accordance with a decision by the University Board.
Members of the Ethics Council
The Council is chaired by Professor Anders Gustafsson. The following additional members have been appointed by the President:
- Marie Arsenian Henriksson, Academic Vice President for Research, KI
- Anna Mia Ekström, Professor of Global Infection Epidemiology at the Department of Global Public Health, KI, and Senior Physician in Infection Medicine
- Claes Frostell, Scientific representative at KI and professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Danderyd Hospital
- Gert Helgesson, Professor of Medical Ethics at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics and the Stockholm Centre for Healthcare Ethics, KI
- Cecilia Martinsson Björkdahl, Head of Unit, KI
- Lars Sandman, Professor, Linköping University
- Helén Törnqvist, Head of Office, Legal Unit, KI
- Helena Avermark, Student Representative (Medical Students' Union)

Seminars
KI's Ethics Council regularly arranges seminars on the topic of ethics. The seminars are aimed at KI's students, employees and the interested public.
