Employee preparation and promotion of safety

How can I as an employee promote saftey in the workplace?

  • Read NVS flow chart on different types of incidents and scenarios.
This will create an overview of potential risks and provide basic knowledge about how to act in different situations. Make a habit of looking at the chart yearly, to repeat and check for updates.
  • Take the KI courses as with intervals as directed:
  • Keep track of current routines and regulations related to your work.
  • Encourage and participate in dialogue with colleagues/co-workers/managers about these issues. Discussions in advance about different scenarios make you more prepared to act. Raised awareness also increases the chance of noticing potential risks.
  • Participate in fire drills, and make sure you are aware of emergency exits in your surroundings, as well as in facilities you visit temporarily.
  • CPR with defibrillation can save lives with sudden cardiac arrest. Several defibrillators are placed all over campus. Defibrillators at KI.
  • Do not admit persons you don’t know to your workplace, without first making sure they are either visiting somebody, or have a KI-card.
  • Be aware of anything out of the ordinary. If observing anything that could potentially create a risk, notify your manager/safety representative/security guard/report in the incident reporting system (depending on situation/risk). This includes, for example, if you suspect that a colleague is unwell.*
  • If you are feeling unwell, anxious, or worried, talk to your manager, safety representative, HR, KI Occupational Health Service, or use the staff support services phone number.
  • In case of a personal crisis, there are usually several stages to be aware of. More information about these stages. Link (only in Swedish).

*For work-related illness/discomfort or for adjustments/return from sick leave, Guidelines for rehabilitation applies; for suspicion of substance abuse, Guidelines for dealing with alcohol- and drug issues applies; for suspicion of victimization or harassment, Routine for preventing and dealing with harassment, sexual harassment, victimisation and retaliation at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS)  applies, for suspicion of domestic abuse, see checklist.
