KI Sustainability Day Student Poster Prize Competition 2026

Do you have an idea or a project that aligns with global sustainability frameworks? Are you a KI student? The Poster Prize for KI’s Sustainability Day 2026 aims to recognize innovative and impactful student projects at the intersection of sustainability and health.

Eligibility

  • Open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Karolinska Institutet (Bachelor, Master and PhD level).
  • Participation as a group is encouraged but not required.

Categories

Posters should cover projects in one of the following categories: 

  • Project Idea – A new, innovative concept addressing sustainability and health, for example but not necessarily at Karolinska Institutet.
  • Implementation – A real-world sustainability project with demonstrated execution.
  • Research – A scientific study related to sustainability in healthcare or biomedical research. 

Themes & Topics

Project themes should focus on sustainability and health. Topics could but not necessarily be related to research, education and advocacy at Karolinska Institutet including reducing KI’s own environmental footprint by engaging KI students and employees for sustainability. Other possible focal points include healthcare and sustainability-related determinants of health in society. 

Possible frameworks include but are not limited to:

  • One Planet Plate
  • EAT-Lancet
  • Planetary Health
  • One Health
  • Doughnut Economics
  • UNESCO’s Education for sustainable development
  • Sustainable Healthcare and Sustainable Research
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 

This year, KI’s sustainability Day on April 16th focuses on healthy and sustainable food choices on campus and in society, and students are encouraged to prepare their projects in relation to the theme. 

Evaluation Criteria

Posters will be judged based on the following criteria:

  1. Innovation & Creativity – Originality and novelty of the project/research idea.
  2. Feasibility & Implementation – Practicality and clarity of the project and its potential implementation.
  3. Potential Impact & Scalability – Relevance and adaptability to different settings.
  4. Interdisciplinary Approach – Integration of multiple disciplines for sustainability.
  5. Quality of Presentation – Clarity, engagement, and visual appeal of the poster.

Competition Format

  • Register your participation and submit the poster in PDF-format by April 9th.
  • Up to three winners are selected by the jury and notified a few days before the Sustainability Day.
  • Winners will receive formal recognition and a feature on the KI website, as well as have a chance to present a poster pitch in English during the Sustainability Day on April 16th. 

Former Poster Competition Winners

Two winners were selected for the student poster competition during Sustainability Day 2025. 

Zacharenia Kourkounaki & Tanja Paul presented the project “Sustainability in Biomedicine – Systemic change through the Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC)”, which utilized a PHRC tool to evaluate the Biomedicine programme’s engagement in planetary health and sustainability. 

Tam Lac presented the “Eco-Eater: Our food choice, our campus, our planet”, aiming to increase student awareness around sustainable eating.

Submission Guidelines

  • Posters should be visually engaging and easy to understand for a broad audience.
  • Posters should be submitted in PDF format by April 9th to miljo@ki.se
  • The recommended poster format is vertical.
  • Feel free to re-use a poster that you already have.
