Summary of the guidelines

The role and mission of the university include providing people with tools for a critical, fact-based approach, analysis, and knowledge acquisition. Universities should also promote sustainable development and understanding of other countries and international relations. Karolinska Institutet collaborates with institutions with different conditions worldwide and can, through its values, role, and mission, support development that promotes health and well-being, scientific progress, democracy, and human rights. These guidelines apply to collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and foreign partners, both at the institutional and individual levels. Ethical considerations are included in the preparation of proposals for new international collaborations, and these guidelines should be taken into account in that process. Ethical issues should be continuously monitored within the framework of ongoing collaborations. Participation in international exchanges is an opportunity offered to students and staff based on an individual choice following a risk assessment (point 4). The individual always has the right to terminate an exchange.
